The Secrets to Why Dog Breeders Prefer Homemade Dog Food

There are times when it would be easier to open a can of dog food and feed it to your pet especially after a tiring day at the office.  There are even times when opening a tin can is too much effort, so a pack of kibbles is even easier for your dog's dinner.  While these are certainly timesavers, commercial dog food contains a lot of preservatives that is harmful to your dog's health.  Think about it, they say that junk food and fast food is bad for humans, so the same has to be true for dogs.

A very good alternative would be to make your own dog food.  Homemade dog food has advantages over the commercial variety.  One of them is cost.  Buying sacks and cans of dog foods will cost more money in the long run.  Dogs like humans are omnivores and eat the same food as we do.  They can eat meat, most vegetables except for onions, garlic, corn and chives.  Fruit is also good for them except for grapes and raisins.

There is a debate among dog owners on whether or not to feed dogs raw meat.  In the wild, dogs and their ancestors ate raw meat, organs and bones of their prey.   When hunting, meat is fresh so there is no need to worry about bacteria like salmonella contaminating the meat.  This is why feeding dogs raw meat is potentially dangerous.  Raw meat lying about has the potential to be contaminated.  Cooked dog food on the other hand reduces this risk.  This is why some owners prefer to cook their dog food.

But raw or cooked dog food does not matter.  Just make sure that your dog finishes his meal in a timely manner and to dispose of the uneaten portions immediately.  Always remember to feed them fresh meat or newly cooked meals that have been allowed to cool.  Feeding your dog raw or cooked homemade dog food ensures that they get the needed nutrients and minerals for their daily diet.

Dog food raw or cooked is easy to prepare.  Some would think that they are a chore.  To save more time, you can prepare dog food in bulk, then you can either refrigerate or pop the other portions in the freezer.  There are a lot of recipes and simple dog meals that you can prepare for your pet.  Resources are available on line, through your Vet or recipe books.  With a little time and some digging, you will have of recipes to try.

A homemade dog food means that you know what type of food your dog is eating.  It means that you are ensured of a healthy diet each and every time you feed him.  You know what he is eating.  Healthy meals mean that your dogs will live longer and is healthier.  Studies have shown that dogs who eat raw or cooked dog food live longer, are sick less often and have shinier coats compared to dogs that are fed kibbles or dry dog food.

Ensuring the health of our four legged friend is easy.  A healthy diet, lots of exercise and love helps a long way in ensuring that they are protected against dog related health problems.

Bodybuilding 101

Every sport has building blocks that make it essential if one would want to reap the full benefits of the sport.  Bodybuilding just like any other sport in the world has pillars or foundations that are basic and intrinsic to the sport.  These fundamentals or basics help professionals and novices get ahead and improve in their craft.  Let us take a look at some of the bodybuilding fundamentals.

Strength and weight training go hand in hand whenever bodybuilding.  Lifting weights and weight training not only increases lean muscle mass but also decreases body fat.  Fat is burned when doing weights and these are replaced by muscles.  The muscles built then enable the lifter to gain more strength to lift heavier weights and develop more muscles.

Cardio training and exercises such as treadmills, stationary bikes, walking and aerobics are very good for bodybuilders.  These forms of exercises work the body’s biggest muscle: the heart.  When the heart is strong, it can supply oxygen more efficiently to muscles and organs inside the body.  Aside from this a cardio workout can simultaneously work on the different muscle groups of the body.

Diet is another very important fundamental bodybuilding pillar.  Lots of people usually have lots of excess body fat that they need to get rid of when starting on bodybuilding.  Eating the right kind of food is very important as these help get rid of unwanted body fat faster.  Foods rich in protein and fiber are very good “sweepers” that help get rid of unwanted substances in the body.  Protein rich foods such as lean meat, eggs and milk also take longer for the body to burn using up more energy and calories in the process.  They also take more time to digest, giving the dieter a full feeling for a longer period of time. Some bodybuilders prefer to eat fat burning foods to help them build muscles.

The last fundamental is rest.  This last bit of bodybuilding basics is usually the most forgotten.  Most people do not know that the body makes new muscles and heals itself while we sleep and rest.  People sometimes tend to get excited and overwork their muscles.  Over taxing the muscles especially for novices will usually result to injury.  Adequate rest on the muscles is important to allow them to heal and create new muscle tissue.  Sleeping for more than 8 hours a night will help the body regain its strength and build muscles while it is at rest.

These  basics go hand in hand.  Taking shortcuts and ignoring one of the basics in favor of the others will not have good results.  Supplements for muscle building will help but finding a balance wherein all fundamentals are met is the ideal situation for bodybuilding.
